Zircon, an exceptional stone with dazzling brilliance

Zircon is an impressive and fascinating stone in many ways. First of all, it seduces with its exceptional brilliance which is the result of a high refractive index and double refraction. This means that the light that enters this stone is returned twice to the eyes of the observer. This characteristic is extremely rare in the mineralogical world and gives it a unique and extremely attractive brilliance.

In addition, Zircon offers a panoply of bright colors. The palette extends from yellow, green, red, orange to different shades of blue. This last color is the most coveted color but also the rarest.

Zircon develops a unique, bewitching blue that can even sometimes seem magical. It is between a beautiful pastel blue and an intense lagoon blue.

The association between this magnificent brilliance and its powerful colors never goes unnoticed and makes it an ideal stone for the most daring jewelry creations.

Despite all its advantages, Zircon took time to make a name for itself in the world of fine jewelry. Its detractor, zirconium oxide is the cause. Indeed, this synthetic stone has sown confusion on the Zircon market which is indeed a rare natural stone and is currently highly sought after.

Zircon comes from different countries such as Tanzania, Vietnam, Cambodia and, last recent discovery, Malawi. However, the only currently known source of gem-quality blue Zircons is in Northeastern Cambodia. In this region, Zircons are extracted by hand and in an artisanal way. Production is therefore very limited, which further increases the rarity of this stone.

The formation of Zircon dates back 700 thousand to 2 million years. The extracted stones are generally brownish, they are then slightly heated so that the chemical elements unfold and create exceptional blues / yellows / reds. The color is completely stable, making it a durable stone and, certainly, a very promising investment for generations to come.

At Taymans Fine Gems, we have a large collection of Zircons that come directly from Cambodia and that we cut with precision. We are at your disposal if you wish to expand your collection of this magnificent stone! You won't be disappointed... It even seems that Zircon brings tranquility, honor and wisdom...
