Heliodor or "the gift of the sun"

Dear Gem Enthusiasts,

In this section of "Gem Stories," we are delighted to present a sparkling and unparalleled gemstone : Heliodor. Its intense yellow color reminds us of a dazzling southern sun. The name perfectly describes this gem as its etymology comes from the Greek words "helios" meaning sun and "doron" meaning gift. This fascinating gem can contain touches of orange and green, giving it a warm or zesty appearance. In any case, it has the power to transport you to sunny, enchanting faraway lands.

Heliodor is part of the beryl family, which is well known in the market for exceptional gemstones. Aquamarine, Morganite, green Beryl, and Emerald are part of this same family. Their chemical base and crystallographic structure are similar. However, their color comes from trace elements that differ for each variety (iron, chromium, manganese, etc.). In the case of Heliodor, traces of iron cause its dazzling color. Its good hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale makes it easily usable for all types of jewelry.

Less known than other beryl varieties, Heliodor is no less rare. Indeed, its extraction is sporadic and much less significant than that of Aquamarine or Emerald, for example. Gemstones over 10 carats with good clarity are particularly exceptional. Furthermore, Heliodor is generally untreated and unheated. All these elements, in addition to its very attractive color, make it an essential gem in high jewelry.

The main source of this fascinating treasure is the Minas Gerais region in Brazil. It is precisely in this place that we go several times a year to select the most precious crystals. Other origins include Namibia, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka.

At Taymans Fine Gems, we have an exceptional collection of high-quality Heliodor in various sizes.
We will gladly accompany and advise you in your selection and in the development of a collection around this unique gemstone.
It is even said that this gemstone boosts the mind and has a positive impact on memory.
